Eagle Manufacturing

In the Making Series

In high school, I was the photo & video producer at Eagle Manufacturing, Brown County High School's student run business in Nashville, IN since the summer of 2019. Our main video series, In The Making, shows a cinematic walkthrough of how a product is made. The first video of the series was heavily inspired from Daniel Schiffer's Pico Pizza Video, down to the music and all. But I felt the style fit, showcasing what we do to people who might not know the details of a manufacturing process, and don't want to sit through a 10 minute video explaining the process.

This project was shot using a Sony A7R III, and edited with Final Cut Pro. Several VFX techniques used in the series were learned from Daniel Schiffer.

Creative thinking was essential to this series. For example, the clip at 0:05 in this video is reversed, because we couldn't get the block to fit in the holder perfectly. So the actor pulled the aluminum block out of the holder, and I reversed it in post. I believe we did the same thing at 0:11, because it was dangerous to grab the drill bit that quickly. I tried to look back at the library to double check, but it's either been deleted or been corrupted.

Another example of creative thinking is at 0:18 in this video. While the transitions before and after the clip of the heat press were added in post production, the effect on the video itself was captured directly from the camera. The camera was a Sony Mirrorless, meaning it had an e-mount that allows lens to be attached and removed very easily, and it's a generally safe connection (meaning you won't break any pins if you don't line it up perfectly). So, I took the lens off the camera, hit record, and basically dragged the lens over the top of the e-mount, without it connected. The result was a little bit of light flare and movement, all coming from a stationary camera, pretty cool! Out of the three, this video was definitely my favorite, mainly because of the VERY smooth physical transitions starting at 0:25. It's quite embarassing how many times I rewatched that 5 second segment, but it turned out amazing.
